Around Our District

It's among the greatest honors of my life to serve the community where I've spent my life, now in the state legislature. I take seriously my work to represent and champion you all - and find great joy in it.  Here are a few of the places I've been in recent weeks.

At the Black Mountain Community Alliance (BMCA) meeting with Commander Matt Siekmann, I was presented with an appreciation award from REACH for partnering with them in our joint work to stop the use of fentanyl. I meet monthly to listen to local police and citizen block watch groups. Find out more about BMCA here.

Joining the Phoenix Taipei Sister Cities Tree Planting event at Lookout Mountain Park to help address the effects of Climate Change by providing more shade in our city. They presented each of us with beautiful pieces of calligraphy. Mine meant victory and success. I was truly honored.

Meeting with union supporters. Thank you so much to our working families. Also, meeting Gabby Giffords at the Gala named in her honor,  along with her husband Senator Mark Kelly and my colleague Stephanie Simacek.

My friend Julie Stockwell invited me to an inspiring evening with former Government teacher and now author Sharon McMahon to hear stories from her new book, The Small and the Mighty, about unknown people who have changed history.  Here are two of the two inspiring messages I wanted to leave with all of you. Each of us may be small, but we are indeed mighty!

At the Black Mountain Community Alliance (BMCA) meeting after winning the raffle and donating the money back to benefit police officers from the Black Mountain Police precinct. I meet monthly to listen to local police and citizen block watch groups. Find out more about BMCA here.

Preparing meals at The Singletons, a non-profit that helps single parents coping with a cancer diagnosis in their family.

Receiving the Golden Apple Award from Chad Willems from AZ Parents for Education in recognition of my continued support for public education.

With Maricopa County Community College Board member Marie Sullivan at Paradise Valley Community College's Open House celebrating their 40th Anniversary.

With Mayor Gallego and friends for the ribbon cutting of the first Cricket Pitch in Phoenix at Turtle Rock Basin Park near Grovers and 9th Street.

Stephanie Simacek and I host candidate office hours so that you can stop by and meet us and get the answers to your most important questions. Come by! We would love to meet you. See the dates and times at https://www.mobilize.us/ld2democrats2024/event/697122/
